Keindahan, kedinginan dan ketenangan bukit peranginan itu nyata tidak dimamah usia biarpun ia sudah diteroka sejak lebih 100 tahun lalu. Begitulah gambaran yang mampu diberikan terhadap Bukit Larut yang dulunya dikenali sebagai Bukit Maxwell yang terletak di Taiping, Perak. Perjalanan menaiki kenderaan pacuan empat roda sejauh 13 kilometer dan mengambil masa 30 minit melalui jalan sempit dan berliku 72 selekoh tajam mengelilingi lereng bukit, mungkin menjadi satu pengalaman menarik. Perjalanan menaiki kenderaan itu membuatkan aku berasa `pening-pening lalat' tetapi terubat sebaik tiba di taman bunga yang ada di atas bukit berkenaan sambil menikmati angin segar yang nyaman. Suhu siangnya antara 15 hingga 25 darjah Celsius dan boleh mencecah 10 darjah Celsius pada waktu malam. Jika cuaca tidak berkabus, keindahan bandar Taiping hingga ke kawasan pesisiran laut Kuala Sepetang termasuk kawasan Taman Tema Air Bukit Merah boleh dilihat dari atas bukit itu dengan jelas.
